Large Wall Clocks Look Great

Selecting the best clock for your wall can be a very hard process. With so many aspects, such as colors, shapes and sizes, to consider it is difficult to find a wall clock that will match the room. If you have decided that you want a clock that will make a statement and really stand out in the room, then good for you. This is a great decision because this is exactly where wall clocks are heading: they are becoming pieces of art rather than time keepers. We can already find the time more conveniently on everyday items we constantly use like kitchen appliances, computers and more commonly our mobile phones.

So how do you find a wall clock that really stands out as a piece of art? Large wall clocks are your answer. Larger clocks look more like a piece of art due to the fact that they are a similar size to the average hanging picture or photograph. In fact, their size is most commonly about 60 centimetres (2 ft) in diameter or slightly bigger. They effectively occupy a larger area of a bare wall to add character to a room.

This article examines what styles of large wall clocks are available. In addition, suggestions to where you can find large wall clocks are given if you are searching for one.

Decorated Clocks

I’ve made this grouping to highlight that a common form of the large wall clocks is the decorated clock. This category includes the large clocks which are painted or printed and are heavy with colors. Now this doesn’t mean that all these clocks are bright, noisy and elaborate because most are actually quite elegant. The great thing about these wall clocks is that there is sure to be one that matches the room you are trying to decorate because they come in so many different colors, patterns and themes!

Antique Clocks

Now this category of large wall clock actually has sub categories: Actual antique clocks, new clocks made to look antique and new clocks made with ‘antique’ items. Large antique wall clocks can give a huge amount of character to a room.

Actual Antique Clocks

If you have an actual antique clock; great for you, if you don’t have one these can be quite expensive. The reason these have been added in is because most antique wall clocks are actually quite big. They usually have average to small faces but very large, elaborately decorated frames made of metal or wood.

New Clocks Made to Look Antique

Put simply, these are replicas of the actual antique clocks and therefore look very similar. Occasionally, they can be made to look like the everyday clock just rusted and worn.

New Clocks Made From Antique Items

These clocks are ones that have a new motor, cogs and hands, however, are mounted on an antique item. Examples include clocks mounted on: large antique machinery parts, antique advertisements or even pieces from old buildings.

Ceramic Clocks

If you are looking for an outdoor large wall clock, one made from ceramic is an excellent solution. Not only will it look great if you have ceramic pots around the garden but it is highly durable to most weather conditions.

Wooden Clocks

Large wall clocks made from wood can be very effective additions to a room. If the room has a wood theme, wooden furniture and decorations, the wooden wall clock will make a very prominent feature. The plus with wooden clocks is that they can be: plain or highly crafted and, obviously, come in all the colors and textures of wood.

Where to Find Large Wall Clocks

Since large wall clocks are not so common it can be quite difficult to find where to buy them. The best place to start looking would be on the internet. Not only at online department stores or auction sites, but also at specific clock websites as they usually stock many different styles and designs of clocks. To find large clocks offline, try your local department store first to see if they stock any, then wander into various home decor shops to see what they offer. If you are looking for large ceramic outdoor clocks your local gardening store is sure to stock some designs.
