Great time for wall clocks

These days laptops, mobiles and household appliances come with clocks that will tell you the time. This has seen a decline in the number of wall mounted clocks bought because people simply do not require their services any more. However, it is still common to see one or two wall clocks in people’s homes, but why? This is because wall clocks have now become pieces of art rather than timepieces and a feature room would look bare without one. So how do you select the right wall clock to boost the appearance of a specific room?

The aim of this article is to examine the various aspects of wall clocks and how each will affect your room. After reading this article, you should have a better overall idea about which wall clock you are going to choose to enhance a specific room.

Color

Perhaps, the most defining feature that will cause a clock to really stand out is its color. If the wrong color is picked the wall clock will either: stand out too much and look out of place or blend in with the wall and not add any character to the room. It is best to pick a color which matches the color scheme of the room but not the same color of the wall. In addition, try and stay away from colors which are too busy, such as bright colors.

Material

The material which the frame of the wall clock is made from will affect it’s appearance as well. It is important, for indoor situations, that the material is not selected for durability or toughness because this is certainly not an important factor for a clock. Instead, choose material which reflects what is found in the room. For example; if you have wooden furniture choose a wooden framed clock or if you can see a lot of plastic or ceramic objects around perhaps a plastic framed clock would look best. However, for outdoor clocks, corrosion resistance and strength may be factors that need to be taken into account, and choosing a stainless steel wall clock frame would be appropriate.

Shape

Wall clocks can come in many different shapes and designs and so the choice of shape is best left to yourself. However, there are two points I would like to highlight. The first point is if there is a common theme of shapes in the room, stick with it: A square clock in a room with very square furniture and decorations fits well. Secondly, some shapes can get very irritable to the eyes and look out of place, these are shapes that stick out in places and look messy. Unless, you know the wall clock of this shape suits the room well it would be best to stay away from it.

Size

The size of a wall clock would be the second most important factor. Every room is unique and a large clock in one room may not look good in another. Large wall clocks approximately 1m (3.3 ft) diameter tend to look good on a bare wall and in a room with a high ceiling. Larger clocks also look great outdoors. For rooms of average size I like clocks which are slightly larger than ‘normal’, approximately half a meter (1.5 ft) in diameter. I find that slightly larger clocks look better because they appear more like hanging art rather than a standard clock.

Note above I have used diameters inferring that the clocks are circular. This is just referring to the ‘generic circular clock’ and, if necessary, change diameter to length and width for appropriate shape.

Wall Clock Large 14 months ago

I agree that since technology improved to high tech you have a clock pretty much anywhere. At your laptop, TV, radio etc.. However, I still prefer having a nice wall clock large in my kitchen!
